Chickens have been sharing our lives since at least 3250 BC. They are thought to be descended from a Southeast Asian game bird. Chickens are kept both for the eggs they produce and for meat.
Chickens come in all shapes and sizes and colors. There are varieties of chicken that lay different colored eggs as well.
We have Rhode Island Reds. They have burgundy to black feathers and a single bright red comb. They are a dual-purpose breed, used both to produce eggs and for meat. A Rhode Island Red lays brown eggs.
