DUCK
Duck...almost all domestic ducks are descended from a wild breed called a mallard. The males have brown bodies with a green head and a white stripe around their neck. Like most birds, the female has much duller coloring.
Here at the farm we have Pekins. They
are the most common type of duck in America.
It is bred in one variety, white; and a creamy
white plumage and orange feet are desired.
The bill is rich yellow in color. Pekin ducks
should weigh not less than, adult drake (the
male), 9 lbs adult duck (the female), 8 lbs.
The correct shape is of a long, broad, deep
and full-breasted type, to carry an abundance
of meat. The Pekin breed is of Chinese origin,
a country in which consumes a lot of ducks.
The first Pekins were imported to the United
States about 1873 for meat production. They
adapt very easily to different climates,
and are found throughout the United States. |
